Personal Pension Plans in Ireland

A personal pension plan is a long-term investment aimed at helping you set aside money for your retirement. It is a retirement savings plan in which you make contributions either on a regular basis or once off lump sums claiming tax relief at your marginal rate of tax.

What are the benefits of a Personal Pension Plan?

Personal pension plans are designed for people who don’t have a pension scheme through work and who want to set aside money themselves or self-employed individuals who wish to provide for their retirement.

Tax Relief on Contributions

A personal pension plan is a tax-efficient way to save for retirement. Contributions qualify for income tax relief at your marginal rate of tax e.g. a high rate tax payer contributing €1,000 per month would cost €600 once the tax relief @40% is claimed. This allows you to grow your retirement fund faster and more affordably. Your age will determine the max % of total pay you can contribute for tax relief.

Control Over Contributions

Personal pension plans offer flexibility, allowing you to contribute monthly, annually, or with lump sums. You can adjust your contributions as your financial circumstances change, making it easier to stay on track for retirement.

Investment Choices

A personal pension plan gives you access to a wide range of investment funds, helping your retirement savings grow over time. By selecting funds that align with your risk tolerance and goals, you can maximise the potential for long-term financial growth.
